granny13 opens with nicola ratti�s �odd doubt�. with the use of a modular system and tape loops, a broken rhythm is obtained by parallelism between single sound signals as lfo one or processed tapes.
on the second side, giovanni lami�s �johnny leech� is made with a small bunch of equipment, just a chaotic hand-made synth (cacophonator) and a memoryman, working mainly on static electricity and leakage current in the synth used without any kind of power supply.

reless return to follow up on there first official release which was entitled cycle, out on world talk records that included a bold yet hazy remix from avant techno engineer shlomo.this time their foot firmly in the the mud, is a solid 4 tracks ep entitled, circuitry merging classic techno components which they say focuses on creating analogically modified melodic organisms. the eponymous title track circuitry brings the listener into a field of near moving stabs synths, pulsing through out the persistent motor rhythm. the follow up seed germinates a melodious and deep sequence to sense growth of emotions into the listeners body. reless stand by their motto of always repeating the essential, which can be heard strikingly through out limitation bringing us toward an end of an endlessly metallic grain storage silo. to conclude, the hotly tipped swedish producer kuf (head of arsenik records) pulls apart the harshly stark limitation exploring a rework focusing on the frustrations and jittering nervous pathways of the listener speaking directly to the frontal lobe his job to reside purely at the edge of our mental limitations.

taylor freels has built quite a strong catalog over the years. his work under his urulu moniker, is widely regarded as top quality deep house and the banshee ep continues in this fashion. the title track has a dreamlike atmosphere to it. the banshee is a work that will strike a chord with lovers of the ocean-influenced sounds and hazy atmospheres. a strong presence of strings and dubby sounds, create a certain laidback mood that is perfect for sun drenched days in the park. chicagoan producer garrett david builds on the hazy atmospheres of the original, while adding some melodic elements to his remix of the banshee where he cleverly shifts between scales and different moods.
quadrant beat is a warm track that is built around warm chords and fashionable drum sounds. again, urulu makes sure to weave some outgoing dub elements into this b-side opening track. romance track is most likely one of the berlin based producer�s most melodic works to date. beautifully executed piano hits flow together seemingly easy over a sturdy rhythm that serves as the track�s backbone. the banshee ep is a work of lush deep house and an excellent addition to both urulu�s repertoire and the saft label catalog.

owl has previously been spotted on labels such as anekoic, circular limited and planet rhythm, but he made quite an impression with the digital release of his blackstone ep on silent season. now the label have done the right thing and cut the release to vinyl, giving ambient belters such as fragment the chance to sit beside none quieter gems like solar wind on wax. there are whispers of rhythm to be found tucked away in blowing the light, while innominate horizon imparts a little warmth with its tender chords, making this a record rich in variation as much as subtlety.

asc is a perfect fit for silent season, favouring as he does greyscale melodic content and a cerebral approach to mutant techno. cerulean is a fine opening gambit on this 12inch, all crooked kick patterns and micro bleeps calling out into nothing, while dimension 1010 maintains the austere approach with a slow swell of melancholic ambience over a meditative rhythm. enchanted is no less restrained, but there s a subtle shard of light in the murmuring pad that lingers in the background. that s well and truly dealt with on the bleak beatdown molniya, which pings bleakest techno into a black hole of sound, which is of course a wonderful thing to behold.

the last essential outing of 2017 for the play it say it label is from legendary dj and producer harry romero. globally acclaimed and recognised star harry romero has been a driving force in the scene since the 90s. he�s released on such seminal labels as sex mania, power music and strictly rhythm, but also contemporary imprints like ovum and defected. never far from the dance charts and an inductee into pete tong s hall of fame, harry�s own bambossa records is another fine chapter in his definitive story. here he shows off his current sound across three fresh tracks. opening up the ep is the arresting �mother earth,� a percussive and tribal number with pinging kicks and loose hits all encouraging you to cut shapes. bright synths rise up through the mix to bring some tension and drama and crowds are certain to react with hands in the air. the masterfully mangled �lesson on swing� is a vibrant brew of skewed synths and surging bass, vocal yelps and wonky chords that will freak out any floor. it�s another robust and full fat tune from the studio of harry romero. last of all is �scatter�, a high-pressure tune with characteristically big drums and fat bass all overlaid with vocal effects that build the intensity. hooky little synth motifs and metallic percussion all add to the steaminess and ensure this a huge anthem in the making. this is a top trio of tunes that are imbued with all the knowledge and know how of a real house legend

savas pascalidis releases heavy new ep brain waves on atrophic society savas pascalidis is an artist who needs little in the way of introduction. having a career that spans the last 25 years, and releases on a staggering number of great labels (gigolo records, kurbel, non series, mote evolver, stockholm ltd, children of tommorow, skudge, figure and many more), were proud to welcome savas to the atrophic society family. brain waves sees further exploration of the techno that defines savas� sound. savage, grooving and dripping in nuance, all four cuts on this ep will set the night on fire. distant dreams is a tunnelling beast that twists and turns over itself with insistent percussive slaps and grooving bass, underpinning a driving synth line that stacks up to create a furious ep opener. there were no parts to work from to make a remix with, so in a total class move echologist drops a cover mix of the b1 track resonate, though it could be said that it�s inspired by all the original tracks on the ep. he strips it back to the bare necessities and propels it forward in true echologist style. the original of resonate is noisey and blustery as the title would suggest, hissing and bleeping over a mid range bassline that tastefully peaks and troughs for the length of the journey. finally, rounding out the ep in total class, subminimal crescendo�s with layers of noise and delay over a funk-fuelled rhythm. all four tracks on this forward thinking ep for atrophic society are essential machine-made music and an outstanding addition to savas body of work.
